Supporting HAF Programmes
The HAF programme is an amazing scheme to help children during the school holidays to:
- eat healthily over the school holidays
- be active during the school holidays
- take part in engaging and enriching activities which support the development of resilience, character and wellbeing along with their wider educational attainment
- be safe and not to be socially isolated
- have a greater knowledge of health and nutrition
- be more engaged with school and other local services
There are so many great holiday providers who are already getting children active and involved in sports and activities but who may not have the resources or expertise in delivering the health and nutrition content. This is where A-life can help your HAF programme.
A-life have been running hands-on health & wellbeing workshops in schools for over 18 years. We have also helped HAF programmes by providing engaging full or half day healthy living workshops and/or fun fitness sessions. Our Healthy Workshops are hands-on, making them really engaging for all ages and abilities (Nursery – Year 6) and ensuring children leave our workshop having learned lots, had fun and feeling motivated to enjoy an active and healthy lifestyle at home.
Each session runs for around 1 hour and is for up to 60 children, meaning we can run multiple workshops in a day. Some of the topics we cover include: the human body, healthy eating, mental health and wellbeing, drinking water, 5 a day, where food comes from, the importance of physical activity, teeth, hygiene, sleep, household safety, smoking, making informed choices and much more.
We also run fun fitness sessions so can run these after a healthy workshop or as an alternative. These run for around 45mins-1 hour and are designed to give all children a full body workout at the same time as reinforcing the key messages of keeping healthy from the hands-on workshop. A fun-packed, non-stop, fast-paced session that motivates children to understand that keeping active is a vital part of staying healthy and can be a lot of fun.
Please get in touch if you are from a council or holiday scheme and we can discuss how A-life could help and get involved.
Typical feedback we recieve daily from schools
“The session was amazing! I have never seen my class so engaged in a workshop. Each station was exciting, fun and encouraged great team work. The trainer was patient, calm and explained everything clearly.” 5 ***** Byron Court Primary School.
During the Easter holidays, we visited a HAF playscheme run by Three Rivers District Council
“Thank you so much for visiting playscheme! The children had a wonderful day! I’ve attached some of their feedback for you to see. Lots of them said you were the best visitor even though it was ‘a bit sweaty’! We would love to have you back in the summer if you are interested?”
Children’s comments:
“Seeing my heart was really cool!”
“I liked the boxing and trampolining most.”“The best visitor was A-life.’‘
