Facts about the Human Skeleton

Fascinating Facts About the Human Skeleton

A new born baby has well over 300 bones at birth

An adult has 206 bones; many of the bones from birth join together or dissolve

The biggest bone in the human body is the femur located in the upper leg

The smallest is the stapes bone located in the middle ear

Some bones are fused, or connected together, such as the bones located in the pelvis (hip) and the skull

Blood is made in the bone marrow located on the insides of bones

You are tallest in the morning; the cartilage that connects the bones in your spinal column is compressed (flattened) throughout the day, making you about 1cm shorter by the time you go to bed!
